Ahupua’a of Ka’upulehu is the land division near the sea of the Hualalai Resort. The Ka’upulehu lava flow of 1801 started above Ka’upulehu at 5,500 – 6,000 feet on Hualalai and flowed to the sea. Pele met two girls, Pa-hinahina and Kolomu’o, roasting breadfruit here. Only Pa-hinahina shared her breadfruit. That night Hualalai erupted near Hu’ehu’e and destroyed the village, but spared the home of Pa-hinahina. The Ka'upulehu subdivision was created by this event of Pele and the two girls and it lets the history of the land explain the name of the home.
